It’s More Than 10 Years Old
Newer AC models can last up to 20 years but older models have shorter lives of 10-12 years. So if your AC unit is around that age, it’s time to start planning for a new air conditioning installation.
Regular Breakdowns
If you find that your AC is routinely breaking down and needing AC repair, then this is an indication that it is time to get a replacement. Consistent repairs can be quite costly and become more expensive than replacing the machine.
High Energy Bills
If your energy bills have become significantly higher of late, this is a clear indication that your AC is not working efficiently and may need replacing.
Your Unit Uses R-22 Freon
R-22 Freon is a refrigerant that is found in old air conditioning units, you are still allowed to use it but it is extremely hard to find and very expensive, so it may work out better in the long run for you to replace your unit with a newer model.
Loud Noises
If your AC unit makes rattling, knocking, banging or buzzing noises when it is on, this indicates that there may be damaged or worn out parts that need replacing or repairing.
